 CITATION

This year's recipient of the University Scholarly and Creative Achievement Award goes to an individual whose recent scholarly accomplishments are noteworthy. Over the past three years, he has published 7 articles in peer reviewed journals and has had even more publications in peer reviewed conference proceedings. During the past three years, he has reviewed over 40 manuscripts that have been considered for publication in leading academic journals. As a result, he is a strong contributor to the advancement of knowledge in the field. He currently serves as Editor for a prominent journal and severs on two additional editorial boards. Service to his discipline is second to none. His involvement with UNC Asheville’s undergraduate research program has been exemplary. Over the years, his work with undergraduate research students has yielded numerous presentations at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). The research involved in these projects contributes strongly to the field as whole but has also enhanced the working relationships this person has with students who take his classes and work with him on such projects. The work does not stop at NCUR. Over 40 papers have been published that include these undergraduate scholars as coauthors. The mentoring process involved in this work has resulted in confident and productive UNC Asheville alumni! Our award winner is also currently the Editor-in Chief of the NCUR Proceedings, a position held since 1991. His supervision involved in the reviewing of papers and the management of on-site operations has certainly given the process a high level of integrity and reliability. Overall, this person has been a strong advocate of UNC Asheville’s undergraduate research program and of NCUR itself. Recently, he has played a large role in the success of the 1st Big South Undergraduate Research Symposium, which was held at Coastal Carolina University this past March. In summary, Bob Yearout has been productive and consistent in scholarship the past three years and beyond. He has made strong efforts to stay true to his discipline, contributing work that advances the field, while at the same time making sure our undergraduate students carry on the tradition of research excellence that is so characteristic of his own work.. Bob Yearout is the recipient of this year’s Scholarly and Creative Achievement Award.
