 Why this scholarship was established

This endowment was established in 1988 by Mr. George G. Harris a longtime friend and business associate of Mr. Ernest Mills, and twelve other friends and business associates. In his letter establishing the endowment, Mr. Harris stated that "Ernest Mills of Mills Manufacturing Company, Asheville, North Carolina, was a man who exemplified the highest ethical standards. His thoughtfulness of others and praise for his family were immense. As a businessman, he was unique. He was most knowledgeable about all business and economic matters. Above all, he was honest and was an expert in his field of being the largest single producer of parachutes for the United States and the Free World. This endowment that honors Mr. Mills and all the principles that he exemplified was established to provide assistance to deserving students majoring in business, economics, and management.
